Iyengar Yoga stems directly from the most classical yoga tradition, but has developed into a very precise and clear method that is easily understood by the modern student. The practice of asana and pranayama is so refined here that all the other aspects of classical yoga – social and individual discipline, introspection, concentration, meditation and self realization – are worked on, experienced and integrated. Technical precision and attention to details are key features of this kind of yoga and are means to keep the mind drawn inwards, but focused and fully connected to reality. Another unique feature of Iyengar Yoga is the use of props. These have been designed by BKS Iyengar as a way of making the practice of asana accessible to all, therapeutic or just simply more efficient and therefore more beneficial.
